    Fire Department

Louisville's fire station is part of the Blount County Fire Protection District. It is a subscription-based utility. The fire department receives no outside funding from the town or county governments. Louisville fire station, designated station #6, houses a new state-of-the-art engine/pumper, a 3,000-gallon tanker truck (which can act as an engine, if necessary) and a 75-foot ladder truck. When the Louisville station is dispatched to a structural fire, additional tankers and support trucks from other stations are automatically dispatched. All responses to a structural fire are dispatched with a minimum of 10,000 gallons of water. Typically, firefighters implement a drop tank operation, which is like having a fire hydrant on the scene. The drop tank holds 3000 gallons of water. Tankers continually shuttle water from a nearby fire hydrant to the scene to keep the drop tank filled.

The current yearly fire protection subscription fee for a residence is $110.00 per year. Additional detached buildings are $11.00 each, and acreage over 20 acres is an additional $11.00. Commercial buildings are individually assessed for rates. The Town of Louisville pays the yearly subscription fee for all residences within the town limits, but not businesses and other non-residential ventures.

All emergency requests for the fire department should go through the Blount County Communications Center (911).

One important role of the fire department is providing smoke detectors. If a household does not have a working smoking detector, the residents can call the fire department's business line (865-983-2133) and request a smoke detector. The fire department will come to the residence and install a working smoke detector free of charge.

The fire department routinely provides community service programs to area schools, churches, daycare facilities, etc. To schedule a fire department visit or to get more information, call the business office at (865) 983-2133.
